Timeless history, reimagined. We carry the excellence of the old hotel into every stay — then add a warm bed and a proper breakfast.
formerly The Old Hyde Hotel · est. 1927
We’re a family who took on this old hotel and set about bringing it back — a working cafe and boutique accommodation, run by the people you’ll meet at the front desk. The vision is simple: revive a historic building for the town and for everyone passing through.
The restoration runs in careful stages — roofing, windows and plastering first — to keep the character intact, proudly supported by the Dunedin Heritage Fund.
The cafe does homely, nourishing food and freshly roasted coffee, and we’ll happily cook a set meal for a group in the lounge. Wi-Fi works most of the time. The stars, fortunately, do not need it.
“So glad the old Hyde Hotel is up and running again — accommodation is rather scarce in Hyde, so this is a blessing. Fabulous to meet the family and swap stories. Loved the homely ambience, and Craig & Liz too.”
In Hyde, Central Otago, on State Highway 87 and right on the Otago Central Rail Trail — halfway between Middlemarch and Ranfurly.
Check-in from 2pm, check-out by 10am. Ask us about a later checkout — we’re usually happy to sort something out.
Not in the hotel but feel welcome to have them on a lead around the Cafe. Who knows, we might have some treats that Charley has refused to eat!
Daily through the season. In the quieter shoulder months, check google times but we tend to only be open for a few hours on the weekend.
We keep dairy-free and gluten-free options going. Tell us what you need when you book.
Barista-made, freshly roasted beans. Out here, it needs to be.
It’s a work in progress, done in stages so the character survives. The rooms and cafe are open and looked after; the building keeps improving, just in the last year we've managed to refit the windows and upgrade the roof.
Yes. We can cook set meals for groups in the lounge and can talk through larger stays - email or drop a message on Facebook and we’ll help. Please note that these events will mostly be during the off season.
Rail-trail season fills up. If you have dates in mind, sooner is safer - there aren’t many beds in Hyde.
