A very small town in a very good spot. You’ll know you’ve arrived when the road goes quiet.
Where we are
We’re in Hyde, one of Central Otago’s smallest — and, we’d argue, most charming — settlements. The hotel sits on State Highway 87, right on the doorstep of the Otago Central Rail Trail, which makes us a natural hub for cyclists and anyone who just wants the road to stop for a while.
The township is tiny, but its position is generous: we sit neatly between Middlemarch and Ranfurly, with the airports at Dunedin, Queenstown and Oamaru all within a short, scenic drive. Peace and quiet, without giving up the ability to get here.

Times are approximate and, this being Central Otago, best enjoyed slowly.
On the trail
Hyde sits roughly in the middle of New Zealand’s original Great Ride — 150 kilometres of old railway line turned gentle cycling and walking track, threading through tunnels, viaducts and some of the best big-sky country in the South Island.
We’re a proud official partner of the Rail Trail and Great Rides of New Zealand — a good bed, a hot dinner and secure spot for the bikes, right where you need it.
Call or email and we’ll help you sort dates, directions and anything else — there’s always a real person on the other end.
